About Andy (Technical Director)
Andy graduated from Bangor University in July 2000 with a first class masters degree in Computer Systems Engineering. He is a
professional member of both the British Computer Society (BCS) and the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE). Following his graduation Andy spent some time on a Teaching Company Scheme, where he carried out a research project, developing a fraud control system for a Company processing on-line credit card payments.
Following the completion of this contract he continued to work in software development for the same Company, later moving into the
system operations department. The move was assisted by his knowledge of the Linux operating system, and the part he played in the solution of some long-standing operational issues.
Whilst in System Operations Andy carried out work evaluating, installing and configuring a wide range of open source software
products and some commercial products. These included firewalling and system monitoring software in addition to various Linux distributions.
Andy went on to become Information Security Officer for the Company. His duties included the development of a comprehensive
information security programme which would meet the Account Information Security standard specified by Visa. He has given training
to staff on Information Security and has kept up to date with current threats and how these can affect systems.
Outside work Andy's main interests are related to the mountains. Living in Bangor, North Wales, Andy is ideally placed to
take part in a multitude of outdoor activities. He is a qualified Summer Mountain Leader and is associated with a local Scout group. He
is an active member, and the secretary of Clwyd Mountaineering Club. Andy also enjoys mountain biking, and goes out walking, climbing or biking most weekends.
